Hey you Lazy SOB’s! Get off your butts and…. get on your butts for the most encouraging news you will hear this year!
Being Lazy is good for you! Stick around to discover why being a sloth for a day could be the secret spice in your busy life recipe. If you want to show this to your boss right now, ill happily take the hit for you!
Laziness, often seen as a negative trait, has been proven to reduce stress and make you happier… and as a cute little byproduct, make you more productive when you do resume normal daily life!
1. Mood-boost central
We are a nation of scrollers and keyboard tappers. We are accessible at all times with access to infinite information at all times. Our poor brains are stimulated to the max, lazing it up for a day will lower stress and anxiety levels, and the mental break can reduce the risk of burnout, boost mood, and promote a more optimistic attitude toward life.
2. May improve decision-making skills
Decision fatigue struggle is real. Taking a step back and appreciating a day of rest allows our minds to clear and reset. This enhances our ability to make well-considered judgments when we return to our daily tasks and challenges, says experts.
3. May cultivate gratitude
If you’ve ever journaled, or heard about Journaling(journaling blog anyone?), you will be aware of the rewiring affect on our brains that gratitude has. Lazy days can increase our awareness and appreciation for the basic things in life, developing a sense of thankfulness. I personally cant remember the last time I wasn’t thankful for some peace and quiet!
4. May boost creativity
When the mind is free of the stresses of life, it can roam and explore new ideas. This mental wandering is essential for creativity because it allows the subconscious to generate new notions and solutions and kicks your body into production mode!
5. May improve sleep quality
All quiet on the western front.. stress and overstimulation may degrade the quality of sleep. Engaging in relaxing activities, where your mind is solely focused on the task at hand(and yes, that includes Netflix) and allocating time to decompress can enhance sleep patterns, leading to more effective rest.
6. May encourage healthy habits
Lazy days offer a chance to partake in self-care activities that might be neglected during more hectic periods. Such activities can include mindful eating, meditation, or gentle exercises such as walking, gardening, and yoga, all of which contribute to long-term health benefits.
7. May improve cognitive function
Rest and relaxation can improve cognitive processes like memory, concentration, and problem-solving ability. A rest day allows the brain to consolidate memories and integrate information, resulting in better learning and cognitive performance
Now. Before you all run for your slippers and duvets, there is a caveat(of course there is) to this research… the limit is shown that just one lazy day a week is beneficial(or a an extended period, for vacation times). Being inactive and unproductive in an extended state can lead to numerous health problems, including obesity, and depression…. But taking one day out of a week to just relax is the magic pill I’m willing to experiment with to bring balance!
Why not lounge at home, dust off that book you’ve been ignoring, jam to your top tunes, or play a game of ‘name that cloud’ as you sunbathe? In today’s non-stop hustle culture, weekends are packed with more to-dos and must-sees than we can keep up with! It’s a miracle if there’s a moment left to just breathe before Monday rolls around. Embracing a lazy day is like hitting pause on life’s remote control, giving work stress and daily duties a time-out.
